Over the last month the Parish Council has carried out some work to the roof of the Village Hall and School House. In January it had all the moss removed from the tiles and then the tiles were cleaned. This cleaning did reveal some broken and loose tiles so the Parish Council has had remedial work carried out to make the roof water tight.

As part of the process the Parish Council had to contact the National Grid to get them to sheath the electric cables that stretched from the poles to the roof. This work made it safer for anyone needing to work on the roof.

The Parish Council would like to remind Dadford residents that they can apply for a 2025 Residents Pass for free entry to many of the racing events at the circuit. It’s one Residents Pass per household, which allows 2 adult and 4 child tickets for each event included in the Residents Programme.

Highlights of the calendar are Silverstone Festival - free for Residents Pass holders on Friday 25 August, and Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship on 21 and 22 September.

Dadford celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style with a fantastic turnout two days running. Starting Thursday evening with the lighting of the bonfire and then on Friday a wonderful turnout of well over 150 parishioners and friends for the hog roast and accompaniments. This generous spread was laid on by your Parish Council with additional dishes supplied by some villagers. The bouncy castle was a big hit with the kids along with table tennis and croquet for the adults.

A huge thank you to Ian Horwood for the non stop music at both events and to Duncan Wheeler for the teepees and picnic tables. We even had the best two days of the weather.

Yet another Jubilee celebration to be remembered.

It was an incredibly sad day when we learnt of the passing of Ivy Cakebread. Ivy was a huge presence on the Parish Council, having been a Councillor for over 30 years and the Chairperson for more than 20 years. There are so many wonderful memories of Ivy, she dedicated so much of her time to Dadford Village and to Stowe Parish. It was an enormously proud day in 2012 when this was recognised as she received an M.B.E. for Community Services to Dadford and Stowe.

Up until very recently, Ivy really enjoyed walking round the village and loved to stop and chat with friends and neighbours that she met along the way. There was always plenty to talk about as she had lived in Dadford her whole life and was often telling people how she was the oldest person in the village. Almost everyone knew Ivy!

During lockdown a seat was positioned in Gorrell Lane as a resting place for Ivy when she took her daily walk. The seat with a suitably engraved plaque “Ivy’s Seat August 2020” can be found on the bend at the top of Gorrell Lane in a sheltered position, where anyone can now sit and take in the wonderful view towards the obelisk.

It is such a big loss for our community, losing Ivy, and our thoughts are with her daughter Julie, son Paul, and family at this sad time.

The Parish Council would like to thank Paul Wheeler for his help, advice and generousity in dredging and clearing the brook and wildlife pond in the village.

The heavy rain at the weekend certainly provided a tester for the brook, which kept within its banks.

There is still some clearing up to complete, and in the Spring the area will be rotavated and harrowed and then re seeded, so that by early summer it should be looking really lovely, with the brook being both a functional and visual asset for the village.

The parish council is pleased to say that the playground is now open. The remedial work to the surface is finished, with the painting and cleaning of all the equipment completed.

Notices have been put up at each entrance to the playground, so please read before you enter. The notices are those used by neighbouring councils so there is a consistent approach in the area.

Parents and children are reminded to act sensibly and think of others whilst using the equipment.

All the fencing around the playground has been painted, by councillors and volunteers, and new fencing has been installed between the playing field and the allotment area.
